Gaston was not only a fierce lover, with endless wisdom and imagination, but he was also, perhaps, the first man in the history of the species who had made an emergency landing and had come close to killing himself and his sweetheart simply to make love in a field of violets. Unknown
About This Quote

The quote above refers to the popular Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast." The movie tells the story of a man who falls for a woman who is not only the most beautiful person he has ever seen, but also very kind and caring. There is one person, however, that has a problem with his feelings. The Beast, a man who is almost as beautiful as Belle, spends most of the movie trying to separate Belle from her father, a man who is obsessed with finding her. This man is Gaston.

In fact, Gaston is the only one who knows she is there at all. He plans to take her away from her father and marry her himself. However, when he suggests this to Belle's father, he becomes enraged and tries to kill the Beast as revenge for what he thinks he has done to his daughter.

In reality, though, it was Gaston who had been taking advantage of the Beast's kindness and putting him in danger by holding him captive in a forest. When Gaston attempts to kill Belle's father in order to protect Belle's happiness, this shows his true colors. The Beast fights back and overpowers his enemy.

As a result, both men are wounded and have to be taken to a doctor for treatment. In order for their wounds to heal well enough so that they can get back into shape for their wedding day without being too weak from being injured all night long, they have been ordered by the doctor to rest under lock and key in an isolated room for several days. In this scene from "Beauty & The Beast", Gaston tells Belle's father that she is trapped inside the castle with him because she was kidnapped by him.         At first glance it seems like Belle has no choice but to marry Gaston because she cannot escape him on her own. However, this quote reveals that Belle has plenty of choices (she chooses not to marry Gaston).

By refusing to become his wife she does not become trapped inside the castle with him; instead she escapes on her own terms (she runs away). She uses every opportunity she has (she escapes through windows) until she can make it out of danger (when she reaches safety). It is up to us as readers/viewers/watchers/listeners/players/players-of-life-to choose our own paths through life.

We can choose to love someone selfishly or we can choose love someone selflessly. We can choose not only one
